Innovation is becoming an increasingly open process thanks to a growing division of labor. One company develops a novel idea but does not bring it to market. Instead, the company decides to partner with or sell the idea to another party, which then commercializes it. To get the most out of this new system of innovation, companies must open their business models by actively searching for and exploiting outside ideas and by allowing unused internal technologies to flow to the outside, where other firms can unlock their latent economic potential. Let’s be clear about what is meant by the term business model. In essence, a business model performs two important functions: It creates value, and it captures a portion of that value. The first function requires the defining of a series of activities (from raw materials through to the final customer) that will yield a new product or service, with value being added throughout the various activities. The second function requires the establishing of a unique resource, asset or position within that series of activities in which the firm enjoys a competitive advantage.

隨著勞動(dòng)分工日益明確,創(chuàng)新正逐漸開(kāi)放化。創(chuàng)意商業(yè)化不再由原創(chuàng)公司單獨(dú)完成,而是通過(guò)合作或轉(zhuǎn)讓的方式實(shí)現(xiàn)。為了在這種新式創(chuàng)新系統(tǒng)中獲得盡可能多的利益,公司必須通過(guò)積極探發(fā)外部理念及輸出尚未應(yīng)用的相應(yīng)內(nèi)部技術(shù)(使其他公司能發(fā)掘這些技術(shù)的經(jīng)濟(jì)潛力)來(lái)開(kāi)放商業(yè)模式。
首先必須明確商業(yè)模式的概念。商業(yè)模式本質(zhì)上發(fā)揮兩大功能:創(chuàng)造價(jià)值;并使創(chuàng)造者從中獲取部分價(jià)值。前者要求定義一系列創(chuàng)造新產(chǎn)品或服務(wù)的相關(guān)環(huán)節(jié)(從原材料供應(yīng)到顧客終端銷售)。這些環(huán)節(jié)不斷提高了價(jià)值附加。后者要求在這些相關(guān)環(huán)節(jié),確立獨(dú)特的資源、資產(chǎn)或地位,以使公司具備競(jìng)爭(zhēng)優(yōu)勢(shì)。
開(kāi)放式商業(yè)模式使組織的價(jià)值創(chuàng)造及獲取都更有效。它通過(guò)融合外部概念來(lái)影響內(nèi)部創(chuàng)意,進(jìn)而促成價(jià)值創(chuàng)造。此外,它還通過(guò)利用公司內(nèi)外的核心資產(chǎn)、資源或地位來(lái)使公司獲取更多價(jià)值。
